I saw this last night for the first time in many years and to my joy, it holds up well, visual effects, flying stunts, wisecracking dialogue, exploding buildings, a super helicopter and hundreds of flying cooked chickens.  Buggedout

That's an old favorite of mine too.  It had a certain weird atmosphere to it that drew me into it.  Good plot, good action, Roy Scheider...what more could a person want?   TeddyR

True: also a laconic laid back performance by the late great Warren Oates.  TeddyR

Don't forget the gratuitously voyeuristic scenes of the naked woman doing yoga.  Now why don't movies these days have cool stuff like that???

This movie came out shortly after my son was born in 1983, so it is the first movie he ever saw, and he didn't let out a single peep during the show.

I really want to like this movie, but I've never been able to warm up to it for some reason.  And believe me, I've tried.  I've owned it on 3 different media (CED disc, VHS, and now DVD) and watched it at least 7 or 8 times over the years.  I love the cast, but every time I watch this I get the feeling that a different director could have gotten more out of it.
