I seem to remember a white male, with dark blonde wavy longish hair, white/cream flared trousers, having his head crushed in a machine that makes vinyl records, gory face scenes ensued and much groaning from his crushed face!

Sounds like Phantom of the Paradise, a fun movie if you like Paul Williams and his music.

"Phantom of the Paradise" (1974), I believe.  Didn't need to see Paul Williams half-naked in a bathtub in that movie.  It's still a fun watch, but that scene - egads.
