So I remember when I was young watching this science fiction movie that I just cannot remember.
Here's the synopsis that I do remember:

There is an explosion outside some town on a farm.  From that explotion a stationary orange blob appears that will make a copy of anyone that touches it and holds that person captive inside.  The copy looks like the person, but is made of the orange blob material.  First one person is copied and starts to find more people to copy.  At one point the main guy is in a car and shoots a dog that was copied.  Finally at the end the guy walks into the blob, does something, and saves everyone. (i think)

Does anyone know what movie I'm thinking of?
Thank you.

No, it wasn't that, its older than 2005.  I think there were some mountains and it had a somewhat desert like environment.

More information that I remember:

When the man walks into the orange thing (Gel/blob/jello like thing), he sees all of the real people just floating inside of it unconscious and is walking past them.

Maybe it's IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE II (1996) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116658/
Has everything you're describing except it's not orange...

I think that actually might be it!  I must have been misguided by the orange thing from something else I watched.  This is going to be a pain to track down and watch though.
