I just came across this movie, soon to be released by Magnet, but apparently made in 2010.

The trailer looks particularly cool!

The wiki article says that Pan Cosmatos used to look at the horror videos in the video store, but since he was not allowed to watch them as a child, would instead imagine what they would be like.  I did something very similar, writing my own versions of movies based on the blurbs I saw on the backs of the boxes.

Has anyone seen this?  Is it any good?

My friend Alex reviewed it for my site and liked it (at least the visuals): http://366weirdmovies.com/list-candidate-beyond-the-black-rainbow-2010/. It's already out on DVD. I have a screener copy sitting in a pile.

I like Cosmatos's concept "to create a film that is a sort of imagining of an old film that doesn’t exist." Due to his exsperiences going to 'video addict' (I asume is a movie store) and looking at tittle and the covers... Don't judge a book by it's cover? But when Cosmatos did it for VHS covers He came up with some interesting ideas it seems. :)

The trailer makes the film seem like it has an interesting blend off styles. I will have to check it out just to see it. Even if I do not like it. It still seems like it is worth a look.

I actually really enjoyed this film for its incredibly strong stylistically 80s approach with an old synth soundtrack and trippy dystopian feel to it. The pace might have been a tad slow for a lot of people but I think that allowed some very intense scenes.

Reading this actually made its style make a lot more sense to me. Anyway worth a bump for anyone who digs stuff like this

On a whim, I went to a shop recently to see if it was available, and was fortunate to discover a copy for only $6!  While I enjoyed the cinematography, soundtrack and overall feel of the movie, I was a bit disappointed by the plot and the way it all came to a conclusion.  The plot changed too abruptly and ended without a real sense of satisfaction.  I'm rather glad that I was able to get it for a bargain price.

By comparison with another indie science fiction movie with slow pacing and barely comprehensible plotline, I much prefer Upstream Color by Shane Carruth.
