I never heard of this up until a few days ago. I just happened to be looking for MST3K episodes on youtube, via television and started finding non-MST3K stuff and happened upon a video called 'movie creepies' and I read the description long enough to see they mentioned stuff like Them! and things I had heard about...plus Shakma. I looked it up and it is a killer Baboon in a tower and I've started watching it.

So far it is alright, nothing super special and it is no The Uninvited when it comes to horror cliches stacked upon each other but it is pretty high with the 'plot point alert' signals. It does help that we don't have some kind of demon or alien but a mostly plain old earth animal that is very deadly if conditions are right.

I watched it not long ago.  I thought it was surprisingly good.  Well ... maybe not good but I thought it deserved at least a B- for effort.

Shakma scared me s**tless as a kid.  I'm still angry that they canned and recalled the DVD, releasing something like 50 copies.  Hatred

I'm one of the lucky owners of that bargain bin DVD release  Cheers
I see it goes for $100+ on ebay  Buggedout

Always wanted to watch Shakma but I could never track it down on tape back in VHS days. Bought the DVD at the bin a couple of years ago.
It was pretty much what I expected. Solid, no budget animal attack horror with a pretty scary (effective) baboon + fun cast and decent blood letting.
Makes for a neat double feature along with the similar Primal Rage (1988). Good luck hunting that one down. The DVD is OOP as well.
