Supes doesn't need to be thinking or feeling, he just needs to punch other super-people.

I've never cared for Superman, but I will give this one a try.

That's too bad....he's my all time favorite super hero. I kinda like the "boy scout" types. TeddyR

The boy scout types are really needed when dealing with superheroes.  Somebody has to be the guy everybody looks up to, the guy who sets the standard, and the one that can get very dissimilar people working together.

That's one of the reasons I think Image sucked so badly in the 90s.  Everybody wanted their character to be the bad boy because that's what popular, but without the nice guy to play off of, all the bad boys just sat around being jerks to each other.

I'm struggling a bit with this one.  I'm really hoping we're seeing all the Nolon bits in the trailer, so the rest of the movie can be awesome and remind us why Superman is one of the greatest super heroes.   Then again, Batman and Superman are the only two properties that Warner/DC seemingly try to do a good job with, so I'll guess I'll just have to wait an see.

While some people find Superman just too powerful and benevolent to swallow, I've always thought Superman's combination of outrageous power and morality makes him difficult to write for, and has lead to better storytelling. You've got a hero who is virtually unstoppable and incorruptible. He needs much more to challenge him, or there isn't a story. You can occasionally throw a physically-matched villain at him, but that has to be done sparingly or it gets old fast. Likewise, you can't just wave kryptonite at him all the time. Superman has to be faced with clever ploys, moral dilemmas, tough choices, situations where he can't use his powers without consequences. That's why his archenemy is a sociopathic genius with no superpowers whatsoever. Hardly anyone can match Supes when it comes to powers, so powers aren't important. More than anything else, it takes brains to challenge Superman, and he uses his own brain almost as much as his powers in order to win. His greatest weakness is not kryptonite, but rather his conscience. He has it twice as hard as Luthor, because he has to win without doing harm or compromising his ethics. Superman is so powerful, his powers actually become less important to the story. The result is a better story.

As for this movie, I have to wonder if we really need the Superman origin story yet again. Everybody knows it. It's been done over and over. Why devote a substantial chunk of the movie to one more take on the same story, instead of just getting right down to business?
