Every time I watch a new movie, I ask myself - does this one go in the "Recent Viewings" thread, or does it merit a thread of its own? On the one hand, I hate to clutter up the forum, but on the other hand, "Recent Viewings" stuff gets buried pretty quickly, and if I really want to recommend a movie to all my BMDO brethren and sistren, then that may not be the most effective place to do it.
So with that in mind, I can truly say that OVERTIME deserves its own thread. This was one of those movies I rented with ZERO expectations - it just looked kinda fun sitting there on the shelf at Hasting's - and wound up being thoroughly entertained throughout the film. Here is a quick synopsis:
Rafe and Max are two hit men with unusual standards: they only take out those who truly are a blight on society. Their boss is a high-priced defense attorney, who frequently uses them to take out people that she just got acquitted in court. Rafe is also a family man, with a 12 year old son and a 15 year old daughter, and a wife who is mightily upset that he frequently has to work on Sunday and misses out going to church with the family.
This particular Sunday, Rafe and Max take out a rather nasty druglord who had just been acquitted on charges of rape, murder, and distribution of narcotics. Rafe goes home and has to be reminded by his longsuffering wife that his son's birthday is that evening, and that he is responsible for getting a clown, a cake, and a nice birthday present for the boy, or he is in DEEP trouble!
But then the attorney explains to Rafe and Max when they drop by to collect their fee that her late client had a partner, and that the two of them were distributing a new and very deadly drug on the streets. She hires them to take out this guy as well, and so now Rafe has another job to do BEFORE he gets the clown, cake, and present for his son.
But then it gets even more complicated when they arrive at the drug lab to find that the new drug that is being distributed there transforms its victims into nasty alien-virus infected zombies! Will they survive their terrifying showdown with these mutated, rotting pests? Will Rafe find a birthday cake in time for the party? Can he get his hands on the new YBox game system, since it is not supposed to be available until tomorrow? Can a homeless alcoholic make a good party clown? Will his wife divorce him if he gets eaten by zombies and is late for the party?
This is one more fun movie, with some great dialogue and performances by a group of folks I've never heard of before. Indy sez check it out!
