I'm not looking forward to it because I like the guy.  It will happen in about 90 minutes.  How's YOUR day going?

I was on sick leave last week. Not the flu but a cold with flu-like symptoms. Went back to work on Monday even though I wasn't 100% fit for work, but I managed. I had some sort of backlash today, sneezed and coughed and I felt like going home, take a hot bath and jump into bed. Of course I didn't go home but it was still a s**tty icky day nonetheless.

I've had to let a couple go, but they both deserved it .  It's still traumatic though.

I hope it went okay. I remember the only time I ever had to fire an employee. I was the bakery manager over two Schlotzskys stores and he was an older gentleman from England. I didn't hire him but the owner did and the guy was bossy and vulgar. I finally let him go when he kept defying my instructions and talking about "the man part" if you get my meaning. He immediatly filed an age discrimination suit against me and the store.....my boss wouldn't back me up,of course. However, the judge threw out the lawsuit when he found out that the guy had done this exact same thing at his last several jobs. Plus the weekend baker I had at the second store was older than him and doing quite well.

The termination meeting went okay.  The guy was obviously sad that he had to leave the company, but he said he understood and didn't have any hard feelings toward anyone.  The whole thing was over and he was out the door in about 15 minutes.  But I still hated doing it.  This is the worst part of my job.  I've probably terminated around 6 people in the past 5 years or so.

That sucks Burgo.  Unfortunately being a boss makes that part of the territory.  I've been a manager, it ain't fun.  Not gonna do that anymore.

Time are tough, and it was not easy for either off you. At least it is all over now and he can more on to find more employment and you can also move on in your work. He does sound like a nice guy. He have some luck finding a new job soon enough. You cannot blame yourself for this mate! so chin up and say hello to another day! Smile
