44. BERZERK (1980)
This game has some strange trivia attached to it.
Quote
Berzerk was the first video game known to have been involved in the death of a player. In January 1981, 19-year-old Jeff Dailey died of a heart attack soon after posting a score of 16,660 on Berzerk. In October of the following year, Peter Burkowski made the Berzerk top-ten list twice in fifteen minutes, just a few seconds before also dying of a heart attack at the age of 18.

GORF!  The first game to verbally taunt the player!

"You will meet a Gorfian doom, Space Cadet!"

...as well as congratulate him.
"you have destroyed my flagship, but for now, you have been pro-mo-ted to Space Captain".   I put lost of quarters into this back in the day!

And let's not forget the other taunter, The Wizard of Wor:

"You bones will dry in the dungeons of Wor, ta ta ta ta!"

BTW: same company for both games (Bally Midway) and they used the same voice synthesis.

45. GALAGA (1981, Namco/MIDWAY)
Another classic.  Sequel to Galaxian.  Great "lose a life to possibly gain extra firepower" idea.  I have a t-shirt of this game!

47)  Battlezone.  The urban legend of the day was that the military actually used this game to train tank drivers  TeddyR

Great game where you climb skyscrapers while avoiding condors, objects dropped on you, closing windows, etc.

Oops, I screwed up and did Galaga twice, so I'll put in its predecessor:
45. GALAXIAN (1979, Namco/Midway)
Space Invaders reimagined, with color and diving aliens!
