I AM THE BAD PHOTOSHOP EFFECT!

« on: April 23, 2009, 11:04:27 AM »

For some reason I found myself thinking about this movie.  It was made back when there was still a WB and they created some cheap easy scifi/horror movies on about the level that the Sci-Fi channel does today.  Except the WB had some stars under contract.

It's about a man going to take care of his grandfather played by Emmet Walsh. Now back in the day, he was a movie star that was the hero in a series of monster movies.  And surprise, surprise, the movies were real.  Sort of.

Somehow the alien creature has melded fiction and reality. Despite the fact that the town still ages and progresses, and people get killed.  The monster isn't 100% real.  To due so it must escape the town, and kill the "hero".  It tries and is foilded, in a series of attempts (sequals).  Each time evolving and adapting.  What kills it one time, won't work the second.  It seems to survive even after intense damge.

Now that the grandfather is getting too old.  The grandson must become the new hero.

When I first saw it, I thought that the makers where trying to do with 1950's era monster movies what Scream did with 80's horror movies.  The idea that there are rules one must follow and things to avoid if you are to survive.  There are cliches such as the authorities never arrive until after the monster is defeated.

The acting is mostly sub-par.  The monster looks like and end-level boss from a video game.  But I remember enjoying it, because I had nothing to do that night but stay at home and eat popcorn.  There's no better time for a bad movie.

I went looking for some scenes of it on youtube and this was all I could find.  Don't worry, this takes place in about the middle of the movie soIIm not showing any real spoilers.

It's Monster! - you left out the exclamation mark.

It does look like it could be good fun. Thumbup

I saw this a couple of years ago on Sci-Fi!  I thought it was a fun movie.  Will have to look for it again.

Later,

Didn't expect to see this on the front page again.  The Thread Necromancers have struck once more.

I go looking for an official release of this every once in a while. Still haven't got one.
