Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

« Reply #15 on: April 23, 2013, 07:20:20 AM »

I first saw Evil Dead 2 in the theater. I was in college, and the town had a two-plex theater (it was a smallish town, and multiplexes hadn't really caught on yet). I went to see Light of Day, an awful "rock and roll" movie with Joan Jett and Michael J. Fox. It was so boring I actually got up in the middle of it to go to the lobby and make a phone call. ED2 was playing in the other theater, and I heard huge amounts of screaming. It piqued my curiosity, so I went to see it the next night. That audience (and I) laughed our heads off at Ash's antics, and I, who had not been a huge horror-movie fan up until then, started renting every horror movie on the video store shelves. So for me, too, ED2 was something of a life changer.

It also put Bruce Campbell up there as one of the few stars I would seek out in other movies.

I feel this should be on the top ten of any list of greatest horror films of all time.  I liked it better than the first and way better than AOD.  Despite the fact the film makes no sense at all.  Great fun.

The first time I saw it, it made no sense. This time, it made plenty of sense. Odd.

The special effects to me look faker and campier in Evil Dead 2 then they do in the orignal despite the larger budget.

Maybe that is intentional considering Evil Dead 2 is supposed to be more comedic than the original.

Not sure I will see the remake... part of the fun of the originals is the fun, and that seems to be missing.

that may be true.  But part of the money of the remakes is the money.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite movies of all time!  I have a huge fondness for all three (often doing the three movie marathon), but, for me, Evil Dead 2 absolutely nails the balance of horror and comedy.

I saw the new sequel/remake/reimaging - it wasn't too bad for a modern horror movie, but it certainly lacked even a small amount of levity to break up the horror.  I'm not sorry I spent money to see it, but probably won't need to see it again...

I love the Evil Dead films and agree that you must see them. I too am not a big fan of re-makes, long over due sequels/prequels, but as I have said before I need to see it to judge it and from what I have heard from other fans, it sounds pretty good. Bruce even condones it.

I'm quite disappointed that the rumour of Nicholas Brendon (Xander from Buffy) to pllay the lead did not happen though.
