Louise, a sweet but nerdy girl falls in love with high school hunk Brad (Tom Cruise clone) but social status issues (popular/unpopular) make things complicated. On a stormy night Louise visits a palm reader (Zelda Rubinstein) who tells her that she will receive special powers on her sixteenth birthday - because Louise is a natural born witch. Soon enough Louise becomes a master in spells and magic turning herself into the most popular girl at school. When she's about to put a love spell on Brad she has her doubts. Can true love exist when forced?
Not a bad movie in a technical sense (IMDb rating: 5.8/10), but producing budget film company TWE (Trans World Entertainment, remember them?) pulled all strings to make sure they had a commercial hit on their hands (domestic gross: $27,843) - as in adorable characters, catchy soundtrack (including live performance by Freestyle/Dance-Pop artist "Shana"), the latest fashion, MTV-style visuals, out-of-place cheesy choreographed group dancing and corny impromptu rap (!) numbers thrown in for the hell of it. All this is so innocent sweet it makes you blush and laugh big time the same time. It's like sucking fresh grapefruit and eating honey afterwards. In the end I had to give in and surrender to this hyper 80s pastel-nonsense. I'm
Teen Witch's b***h now.
