Name the games you gave up on or did eventually complete but it was the challenge of your life.

Here are a few I've never beat but would love to -

Blaster Master - Nintendo 8bit

Never beat

Zelda: Wind Waker - GameCube

Never beat

Final Fantasy 7 - PlayStation 1

I made it half way - never finished it.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out - Nintendo 8bit

Tyson is the only one I can't beat.

I have beaten many games in my time from Castlevania 1 all the way to Puzzle Quest 2.
But here are a few that gave me a challenge of a life time -

Snake's Revenge - Nintendo 8bit

I did beat - but is was so difficult!

Props to anyone who beat any of those top 5 games!

How about your list?

Midnight Club 2- The difficulty doesn't gradually goes up, it spikes. It is the only game I regret using cheats for.

Yes. Midnight club was hard so is GRID 2.

Heres another one that I'm proud to say I have completed 100% 'full castle flip' on Playstatin 1.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Small | Large

Trust me, it's difficult to complete this game "100%"

I remember TARG and VENTURE used to kick my butt.

An oldie I recently played, ROUND-UP, is brutally tough too.

And trying to get used to the controls on Defender was itself a challenge:

And lastly, GRAVITAR.  Super-tough!

BattleToads on NES.
That's the first game I thought of too.  I'm convinced that they never actually programmed and ending to that game because they knew nobody would ever get to it.  Any let's plays or screencaps you see online are just elaborate forgeries.

Hell yes. Even with two people that game was brutal.

Blaster Master and Ninja Gaiden/Shadow Warriors were my go-to 'could never finish' games on NES.

I found a workaround though when I got the roms which allowed me to save progress so I could keep reloading until I got things right.  Pain in the butt, but I finally finished both.

Most Castlevania titles. Symphony of the Night and Order of Ecclesia (Hard Mode) were entertaining and challenging.

Some say Dark Souls is a hard game but I've found that once you get used to it the game can be somewhat easy... Except for PvP... And Gwyn... And the Four Kings... And Manus... And the Hellkite Drake...

...I take back what I said.

Sword of Sodan - Genesis

This game is SUPER hard!

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Nintendo 8bit

This game is very difficult for MANY reasons.
1. Back in 1987 we had no internet, just nintendo power and gamepro magazine.
2. This Castlevania is very different from the others - it's more like a riddle/rpg.
3. Too many hidden things going on - items, areas, etc.
4. The unstoppable transition from day to night - night to day. Play it and you'll see what I mean.

Montezuma's Revenge - Atari 2600

It's my favorite Atari game, but damn it's hard to beat...
yes, an Atari game that can be completed.
