I was considering donating this movie to charity due to bad memories. The thing is, during that time, anxiety (caused by OCD) and such prevented my enjoyment of the movie, so I figured it deserved another chance.

Actually, watching this with a clearer mind, it manages to be unsettling and, when trying to, has good atmosphere, although its often just spending time with quirky people.

Those people also have distinct personnalities and actually talk and behave like real people, as opposed to films occupied by stock archetypes who talk/act like there's an invisible audience watching them.

The Innkeepers gets a disproportionate amount of haters considering it was released shortly after Apollo 18. The Innkeepers had characters with personnalities, characterization and  also sometimes had atmosphere. Apollo 18 had, er... nothing.

Granted, The Innkeepers isn't exactly Sleep Tight, or Absentia, or Sinister, but it is quite easily superior to the average Hollywood attempt at atmospheric and/or character-driven horror, like Wind Chill, Vacancy, The Roommate or the aforementioned Apollo 18.

I've watched this on Netflix a few months ago...
I must say, it seems low budget but it does have some good scares and it does have that creepy atmosphere from to to time.

Ti West should lay off slow burning horror for his next movie. It worked perfectly with The House of the Devil, but got exhausting with The Innkeepers. For me the scariest thing about the movie was the casting of Kelly McGillis. We all get old but, damn

That said, The Innkeepers had its moments but I thought it was quite weak compared to The House of the Devil.
