Many people know that movies like SCHINDLER'S LIST, THE GODFATHER, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA were nominated for (and won) multiple Oscars.  The object here is to compile a list of movies that we often forget (or maybe we never knew) were nominated for one or more Oscars.  Maybe they didn't win . . . but they were nominated.  Here are a few nominees to get us started:

* THE KARATE KID - Pat Morita, Best Supporting Actor
* GREASE - "Hopelessly Devoted to You," Best Original Song
* DUNE - Best Sound
* THE TOWERING INFERNO - Best Picture; Fred Astaire, Best Supporting Actor; plus 6 additional nominations (and it won 3 Oscars!)
* THE LONGEST YARD - Best Film Editing (and I'm NOT talking about the Adam Sandler remake, for the love of God!)

STARSHIP TROOPERS: Nominated for best visual effects

"The best parts are watching Sly go through the full range of emotions: deadpan, deadpan with raised eyebrow, deadpan with quivering lip. There's also a great sequence where Sly drives his VW Beetle down the interstate for about 20 minutes, staring dramatically through the windshield.."-Joe Bob on A MAN CALLED RAMBO

I couldn't believe that the IMO inaccurate crapfest known as Invictus was nominated for two Oscars.  Buggedout Buggedout

Just to be fair, it is quite a stirring film but I think my dislike of it stems from the pre-production days of it when I was sent an email, the writer of which spent two thirds of a two page email telling me the duties of a property master.  Twirling
