List as many as you like, regardless the year of make.

1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) ~ This wasn't at all what I expected. It's just an all-around very good, entertaining movie.
2. The Artist (2011) ~ This wasn't a movie, this was an experience. Loved everything about it.
3. Children of Men (2006) ~ smart and engaging sci-fi.
4. Argo (2012) ~ Nearly flawless and quite intense.
5. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) ~ truly deserves all the praise. Above average summer blockbuster fare.
6. The Conjuring (2013) ~ Spookie stuff for the "mature" audience.
7. Sunshine (2007) ~ This was on my to-watch list for years. Glad I finally gave it a spin. Majestic.
8. The Hunger Games (2012) ~ Another above-average blockbuster that delivered. I didn't expect to like that much.
9. 11:14 (2003) ~ The "whoa, this wasn't bad at all!" kind of flick. The low budget and high ambition gels perfectly.
10. The Jerk (1979) ~ Yes, I should be sitting in a corner hanging my head in shame. But hey, better late than never :)

Also watched for the first time and enjoyed:

Iron Man 2 (2010)
Thor (2011)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)
ParaNorman (2012)
Warm Bodies (2013)
Stoker (2013)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
The Possession (2012)
Wrath of the Titans (2012)
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)
The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)

Most overrated: Frankenweenie (2012) ~ Yes, I'm aware of the awards and stuff but still, Burton's old tricks got tiresome.
Most underrated: Mama (2013) ~ All I read on message boards are complaints. Too bad because this is much better than its reputation.
The "Sue me, but I liked the sequel better than the original" Award goes to: Silent Hill: Revelation 3D (2012)
The "It left me indifferent" Award goes to: Sucker Punch (2011) ~ too repetitive for my taste.

Honorable mention:

1. The Killing of America (1982) ~ Stunning documentary.
2. Sophie's Choice (1982) ~ Meryl Streep's performance blew my mind.
3. Scream, Pretty Peggy (1973) ~ Solid made-for-TV proto-slasher.
4. 20 Most Horrifying Hollywood Murders (2006) ~ Exploitative journalism but damn, it was entertaining.
5. Rare Exports (2010) ~ Has cult appeal.
6. Cracks (2009) ~ Female Fatal Attraction between students and teacher. Complex and compelling.
7. Mad Circus (2010) ~ Epic and over the top dramatic, and violent. Amazing movie.
8. The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959) ~ Surprisingly "rude" with a few "harsh" practical effects.
9. Dirty Girl (2010) ~ A bit disjointed and silly but I didn't mind.
10. The Skull (1965) ~ Atmospheric.

Promethius (2012) - I'm a total Alien fanboy (except for Resurrection) and I loved this  TeddyR

Ju-on: The Grudge (2002) - I'd seen the American version but this was the first time I'd seen the original.  Very creepy.

Phone (2002) - South Korean horror movie.  Great atmosphere, characters, everything.

Noroi: The Curse (2005) - more J-horror.  Scariest movie I saw all year  Thumbup

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) - great addition to the franchise.

American Mary (2012) - stylish and original, and Katharine Isabelle does a great job in the title role.
