This one from Darrel Royal is really dumb... If worms had guns, birds would probably have the same.

I would simply say: "fewer guns means fewer deaths; it is quite simple actually." Unfortunately I don't remember the author.

Naw...more like 'the fewer murderous idiots there are, the fewer deaths.'
Take away the guns, but leave the same impulses and you just keep banning more things until they have to ban rocks.
After all, guns are just the current level of weapons, invented in an endless game of oneupmanship.
 Just wait till someone invents a working portable laser. Yeesh!
