This was a fun, quirky horror/comedy that made me laugh in several places.
Marion and Jarmon Mugg own a large, old-style apartment building in Chicago that they inherited from their mother. It's run-down, the furnace died some time ago, and they are poaching electricity from the church next door. Their tenants have mostly moved off, but they are left with a stoner, a hermit, a prostitute who keeps forgetting to put her shirt on, a dapper, eccentric old man (played by Robert Englund), and a mean, cranky old lady. All the tenants have a common problem: their pets are disappearing. After doing some research, Marion and Jarmon find the cause of the animal vanishings: a hideously deformed creature is living in the basement, eating all the cats and dogs . . . and is now targeting people. Between constantly getting snockered at the bar on the first floor and/or smoking weed with their stoner tenant (played by T.J. Jadowski, best known as the blond guy on the Sonic commercials), the two brothers really aren't well suited to dealing with a mutated, cannibalistic monstrosity. But in the end, when the cranky little old lady gets eaten by the Mole Man, the two have little choice but to face their fears, descend to the basement, and hope for the best. I was pleasantly surprised by this one, and I think you will enjoy it too.
