I saw a marathon of these when I was much younger on U.S.A. The whole series was basically about the crazy mountain man (that I seem to remember looking like Charles Manson) capturing a couple of girls and holding them hostage in a cave on a cliff face. The rangers eventually found them and rescued them, and I think the guy fell to his death. One of the sequels (I believe it was the third one) opened with a girl jogging by a lake in heavy early morning fog. The (apparently not dead) wildman jumped out and captured her, and the rest of the movie repeated the same plot again, only with one girl this time instead of 2-3.

Anyone have any clue at all what these might be?

Those are the ABDUCTED films and the mountain man is Dan Haggerty.
