All the normal Hollywood reasons.

Money! Cash! Moola! Dinero!

Or the reason most films are remade or have a sequel. The producers think they can turn a profit on their version of the film. Which was actually a financial failure at the boxoffice, when it was first released in 1946. It was only when the original began to play on TV, that it became the holiday classic that we know.
