I have been itching to see this movie ever since I read about it in the Psychotronic Video Guide.  I finally watched it on Netflix streaming over the weekend, and, yup, it was bad!

The all-star cast includes Tim Matheson, Charlton Heston, Peter Boyle, Jack Palance, Dorian Harewood, and Paul Koslo.  Coincidentally, Corin Nemec is also in it, and I had watched his movie about Ted Bundy on Netflix the same day without realizing he was in both movies.  What are the odds of that?

SOLAR CRISIS sort of looks and feels like a bigger-budget version of the sci-fi movies that Roger Corman produced in the 1980s.  Some of the acting is atrocious and a lot of the dialogue is painful to listen to.  It was directed by Richard C. Sarafian of VANISHING POINT fame.  However, he wisely used "Alan Smithee" instead of his real name for the on-screen credits.  OUCH!

This is in my queue at the moment.

"In this sci-fi thriller set in 2050, a huge solar flare threatens to destroy life on Earth unless scientists can drop an antimatter bomb on the sun."

I covered that plot summary in brief elsewhere and I'll say here what I said there: that would be as helpful as killing the entire population of the world to keep them from being murdered by an escaped lunatic in Nebraska.

The exchange would probably go something like this - "I know this sounds crazy, General Beers, but the only way to save the Earth from a solar flare is to blow up the sun."
