I AM THE BAD PHOTOSHOP EFFECT!

« on: November 12, 2013, 08:35:58 PM »

So a while ago I posted on a thread here that I would like to own a DVD copy of the movie Split Second (in a proper region code) but that some of the DVD's where being sold at over a thousand dollars on amazon.

Today, I looked up When Dinosaurs ruled the Earth.  Some of the more reasonable ones were around the $50 range as a two movie set.  But there is one being sold -at the time I create this thread - the price is $3,331.66 plus shipping and handling.

Unless hidden on the DVD special features is a cure for cancer or a working alchemy formula for turning base metal into gold, there is NO WAY to justify charging that much.  Even if it was the last one in existence, which it clearly is not. Who would pay that amount?

Share your unbelievable DVD price finds here.

I wouldn't, but the reason for the price-gouging is the fact the company yanked it from release after they found out that the PG-rated caveman movie had nudity. I guess someone complained. It was a British film; they have no real issues with bare breasts, yet somehow we Americans do. Go figure.

Not a DVD, but someone's trying to sell a used copy of my 2009 Weird Movies Yearbook online for $79. A new copy costs under $7.

Thank goodness that there are no more FYE stores in Alaska. I bought a DVD copy of Fist of the North Star (1986) (reviewed right here on badmovies.org, by the way) there for $29.99 back in 2009. Not a big deal, perhaps. But I found the price to be rather ridiculous, personally. But then again, most everything sold at FYE was what I would consider to be "ridiculously priced".  Hatred

I've seen sellers do this with various items on Amazon.com.  My guess is that they are hoping someone will find their listing first and just buy it without researching what a more reasonable price is for that item.

I have seen this as well.  There are many items where they will list various prices and sellers like this:

$27.95

$29.95

$32.95

$36.95

$1,495.50

WTF?????

A lot of times this can be attributable to pricing bots. When two bots go to war with each other, human reasonability goes out the window.

Not saying that's what always happen, but it could be a reason.

Amazon price bots result in unusually high- and low-priced books
