Hello everyone,

Despite not being a very active member of this website, I've been very fond of badmovies.org for many years now.
Currently I'm the producer on a videogame that is as much about bad movies, as it is about bad food.

As I was designing one of the levels, it occurred to me, that I should really get input from people with a similar love of trash cinema as myself. So now I humbly would like to ask the input from this community as to what kind of visual nods to B movies should be included in the game.

The game is a 2d side-scroller, and each level has numerous shops/homes in the backgrounds, so for the "chinatown" level I have one shop that says Mog-Y's as a reference to gremlins, filled with weird trinkets and a note on the door about not feeding it's pets after midnight.

Please be as specific as possible include screen captures if you can, I can't promise all the idea's presented will be included but they just might! For those that contribute a bunch of cool ideas, I'll see if I can send over some promotional swag to you guys for being so awesome!

So stuff like that would be appreciated, obscure references are great!
More information about the project can be found here:

Much love,
- Celx

Well, here's something to get you started....

S-mart.  the place Ash from the Evil Dead series worked.  (This is how it looked in the comics.)  You might want to stick a sign on the window advertizing their chainsaw sale or something.

Dante's Inferno Room, the "House of Ill repute" from Beetlejuice.

Elvira's multicolored monstrosity from Elvira:  Mistress of the Dark

I'm not sure if the board's censors would get me for this or not, so I'll just provide a link, but it's the main location in From Dusk Till Dawn

Ray's Occult Books, the place ray Stantz was working in Ghostbusters 2

There's not really a good picture of it, but included here is the grocery store that serves as the location for Fuad Ramses Catering from the Blood Feast movies.  (If included, putting a sign that says "All you can eat" might be a nice touch.

Of course, there's always room for a few street signs such as

From Troll 2 one of the worst movies ever

and maybe even a bit of graffiti.

(I really hope I don't have to explain this one to you.)

If any of these help or if you want more just go ahead and let me know.

Cool. I look forward to seeing it.

On that note, since you're calling it Bad Taste, why not pay a little tribute to the Peter Jackson movie of the same name.

Perhaps labelking a building as The Astro Investigation and Defence Service (AIDS) or just having aplace called Derek, Frank, Ozzy, and Barry's.

(accidentally deleted this post when I intended to modify it.)

Come on, nobody else has any ideas?

You could add a homage to "Blades" by making a lawnmower an opponent.  That could also be mistaken (or work as) for a reference for "Maximum Overdrive" if this truck appears somewhere:

Oh!  Also giant mosquitos (created when they drank from the mutants?) ala "Mosquito"!  Come to think of it, a lot of "Mosquito" takes place near a summer camp.  Any sort of summer camp with cabins fits the bad movie slasher, with Crystal Lake being a famous one.

"Poultrygeist" takes place at the American Chicken Bunker, which is built on an ancient Indian Burial ground:

Perhaps a level with Godzilla's foot in the background?

"KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" took place in an amusement park.  At one point KISS battled space werewolves with a roller coaster as a backdrop:

A movie theater showing a strange, but real, movie would be cool.  Something like "Weasels Rip My Flesh" or "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers."

Make a level take place in the woods with this sign at the entrance:

Then there's the Lament Building from Hellraiser 3.

Another idea is having a meat delivery truck or maybe just a butcher shop with the name "Sawyer's" on it.  (Texas Chainsaw Massacre reference.)

I love the mosquito idea, what do you think about these?

Also there are a bunch of references to poultrygeist, uncle Kaufman is actually going to be in the game, I just need finish up his script, and send it over to his assistant to get approved.

Anyway I just wanted to let you guys know I am reading what you post, and I'm really greatful for your input.

So, any update?

Indeed I do, I got some poultrygiest style eggs into the game, and some evil dead references, along with some other stuff. I think the thing most people don't realize here is that this is a "professionally" made game, so we need to avoid any copyright issues that could occur, so it can't be a spot on reference, we did get that nightmare on elm street reference in there though, as well as the  nilbog reference, and Elvira's house reference. The nice thing is I actually know uncle Llyod personally so anything to do with Troma is on the table.

Should have some more pictures up this week! maybe a few up tomorrow!
You won't be disappointed it's really cool stuff, and I really appreciate the info!

Maybe have a manhole cover open and see the top of a head and some glowing yellow eyes like in C.H.U.D

If the King Head Honcho of Troma himself is cool with you, why not add a skinny guy in a tutu mopping up some spilled toxic waste in the background somewhere?

(Toxic Avenger reference in case you missed it.)
