Anybody know any good asian horror and would recommend one? I've seen Ringu, I've seen The Eye, I love asian horror, but I'm not too crazy about the sadako/grude long hair ghost stories. Looking for the more creative asian horror out there.

Please post your favorite asian horror films or ones you would recommend, It would go appreciated and I'll look in to them.

What are your favorites and why?  Cheers

Hausu because it's weird and crazy.

I enjoyed "Saimin" or "Hypnosis" though the voiceover in this trailer is terrible.

I love THE EBOLA SYNDROME and THE UNTOLD STORY.
BATTLE ROYALE is great too.

I really liked this one.  Weird as can be but also very spooky.

I could recommend Takeshi Kitano's Brother (2000) - while not a horror film, it is gory, very violent and oddly enough very funny. Sample dialogue:

TK: What a dirty old bag.
Underling: I'm sorry, we were busy collecting the money.

Underling: "They want me to kill you. You're a pain in their ass."  BounceGiggle

Mobster makes a comment about "[expletive deleted] Japs".
TK [shoots him dead] "I understand [expletive deleted] Jap, a***ole!"  Buggedout TeddyR

TK's men meet his girlfriend:
Underling: "Can't tell if she's pretty or ugly."
TK [goes for his pistol] "WTF?"

One Word and one name...Audition and Takashi Miike.
Also enjoyed stuff like Uzumaki, where everything that happens is based on a Spiral.
It's based on a Manga by Junji Ito, who did all kinds of weird and creepy horror stories.
Noroi is also really creepy at times (the one Jack posted) and I would have recommended the Ju-On movies, but you said yourself that you're not that into the whole Grudge/Ringu-Stuff. Maybe check out the Ju-On Curse movies which were before the Grudge-movies.
Besides that I can't really think of any good ones...I'm more the Asian Action/Thriller kinda guy.
There was a movie called Kakashi (jap. for Scarecrow) which was alright I think and people seemed to like the japanese originals for Pulse and Dark Water even though they were not for me.

I love THE EBOLA SYNDROME and THE UNTOLD STORY.

I was coming here to post Ebola/Untold Story. I watched both of these recently and not only are they incredibly OTT in terms of violence/sex but are hilarious and have awesome pacing.

Others
Suicide Club-Crazy movie that showcases a wild sense of humor along with crazy violent set pieces and musical numbers.

Memories of Murder-Ok this is strictly a thriller but it's one of the best examples of Asian genre film making that I can think of. Riveting Zodiac like thriller before Zodiac even came out.

Chan Wook Park-Vengeance Trilogy-Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Three looks at revenge from one of South Korea's foremost directors. Oldboy may be the most popular korean film ever made and a quick comparison between it and it's terrible recent remake will show you why.

I'll add some more if I think of them but I have really not seen that much in the asian horror category. It's a good time to check them out though because titles like Ebola Syndrome which would be difficult/impossible to find on store shelves here are freely available on youtube.

I remembered another really good one. It's also from Takashi Miike and it's a mixture of a yakuza movie and a horror film...GOZU

Jigoku (1960)

House (1977) - I see is has already been suggested under it's Japanese name

Kwaidan (1964)

Onibaba (1964)

Haven't seen it in years, but Virus (1980) caused me some very chilling thoughts when I watched it as a teenager.

I'll also recommend Gantz for weirdness, but I wouldn't call it horror.

I wouldn't necessarily classify it as horror but you can always try I Saw The Devil (2010).

Another option if I remember correctly is Blood Rain (2005).  Been awhile since I have seen it but more murder mystery/crime along with I Saw The Devil.

If you are into monster or killer animal movies try Chawz (2009) it is a nice killer pig movie though more of a black comedy then horror.

If you want a ghost story but not the typical try R-Point (2004).

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming  Cheers

I have seen some of the ones mentioned. Will be checking out the rest.

After I wrote this thread I went off to watch Ju On (asian The Grudge) and honestly, it was very very very very mild. Did not find it to be creepy or scary. I kind of left saying to myself.. "Man It takes more than pale makeup to freak me out I guess...) Looking for something a bit more original I guess. :D

If you want a fun cheesy monster movie then Sector 7 is pretty good.
