I wouldn't post this on the V-E Day topic out of respect for Our Nation's servicemen, so I will post it here.  If any of you find it offensive, I apologize and please feel free to remove it.

I do have relatives who fought for America in WW2.  However, despite the varied (and quite respectful) discussion we had about V-E Day, I have to do my part for my blood and roots and honor the war dead of Germany since some of my family of that time were among those fighting for Germany, and I hope you understand the unique position I am in.

From the Franco-Prussian War (the war of my great-great-grandfather's service) to WW1 and WW2, (and the service of my now-deceased family members of those wars), I present the traditional German military funeral lament, "Ich Hatte Einen Kameraden", which is still in use by today's German military, 205 years after it's creation by Ludwig Uhland.

Soldiers are not polled as to whether or not they approve of the policies of the government they fight for.
Old men start wars, but young men die in them.

Respect to the fallen, of every nation.

I couldn't have said that better myself Indy and it's not the first time it's been said.

Achtung der Kriegstoten von alle Nationen!  Deutsch, Amerikanische, Briten, egal! Respekt für die gefallen!

(Observance of the war dead of all nations. German, American, British, whatever. Respect for the fallen!)
