1990 - 2005: Teenagers, Internet, Some sort of cult, Chatrooms

Hey guys,

So this is a really long shot but it's been bugging me for the last 13 years or so when I first saw it on cable television (in Australia).

I can't remember any of the actors or anything like that but I remember:

A movie involving teenagers, had a very punk/gothic kind of feel to it. This guy meets these people on the Internet and kind of gets sucked into this world - I think he's largely there for this other teenager girl. I remember it gets kind of weird and strange.

I think it might have also involved hacking and stuff like that.

I reason it must have been 1990 - 2005 because it was on day time cable television on the movie channel and I would have seen it approximately 13 years ago. Maybe even more like 16 years ago. The presence of "Internet" and "chat rooms" would seem to make sense it must be >1990.

It wasn't 'hackers' though. I vaguely recall it almost had a bit of a 'Blue Velvet' feel to it where the main character perhaps had a bit of a 'loss of innocence' in the process of meeting and joining this cult?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
