I have been haunted by this movie for over 25 years.  I don't remember the name or much else besides this scene.  I watched it in the 80's  but it could have been made in the 70's.  I have watched so many movies always hoping to find it.  I always tend to think back on it when I'm watching a Hammer film.  It could be something from an anthology.  I found this site last night and after exploring the forums to see if anyone else mentioned it decided to ask.

I don't have a lot of info, here is what I remember.  There were a group of people and they enter what I think was a church.  I believe there were children in the group.  They go into this church and for whatever reason they are up at the ceiling and witness something bad occurring below them and have to keep quiet so they won't get noticed.  The people up top are getting more and more scared and some they are trying to stay as quiet as possible but are getting more and more scared.  I can't remember if it was satanic, vampirism, or just something else.  I'm at the point where I feel I could have imagined a different scenario, then what was really happening in the film.

ps thanks to all for reminding me of Lemora and the Phantom Toll Booth.

Thanks all.

Maybe a bit too obvious but possibly Children of the Corn? Actually though, I'd imagine similar scenarios have happened in other films too.

It isn't Children of the corn.  I wish I had more to go off of to describe it.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Young Sherlock Holmes? There's a very similar scene to this in which the young protagonists are watching a ritual taking place below them and, mostly due to the period and setting, the film has quite a Hammer feel to it. This got lots of screenings on UK television in the late eighties/early nineties.

It's not much like a Hammer film, but the 80s supernatural thriller THE BELIEVERS revolves around a small cult that operates in a barn (iirc) and preys upon children. Practically the ONLY thing I remember is a scene where Martin Sheen and a young boy (presumably his son) are hiding either in the loft or in an attic above the main area of the barn and are watching a dark religious ceremony.
