Last Saturday, The boys and I were at WyreWizard's for our Saturday movie review.  The movie we had chosen was Star Wars, Episode 5:  The Empire Strikes Back.

In one part of the movie where Luke sensed his friends needed him and had to leave the planet Dagobah.  We remember Yoda lifting Luke's X Wing fighter out of the marsh with psychokinesis.  But when Luke took off in it, I noticed WyreWizard shaking his head.  He normally does this when he sees something that isn't right.

At the end, we compared notes.  I asked WyreWizard what he found wrong in the Dagobah scene.  He said "Luke's X Wing should not have been able to fly after being submerged in a marsh for days.   I mean if you leave a car or plane submerged in a marsh for several days and dredge it out, they would never work again."

But Rick commented "But their technology is different from ours.  You saw were R2 was roaming around submerged in the marsh before he was thrown out."

Then WyreWizard says "But the X Wing was designed to fly in space, not under a marsh."

Heya Doc!

While WyreWizard has a point, I think I'm going to have to agree with Rick on this one. The fighter being designed to fly in space is going to be air tight, and thus wouldn't fill with water and get ruined. If you look closely you'll notice that there isn't much water that drains from the fighter and where is drains from is open.

he was okay with the whole 'lifting-a-craft-out-of-a-swamp-with-telekenesis' thing then...

Hi there!

The Force has more tricks up your sleeves than you previously imagined. I know, I have seen it, it's so complex that not even science can explain it yet, no words can describe the aura that The Force has to it, it is neither hot nor cold, yet it feels like both. It is fear and no fear at the same time, it is something that little kids can dream of in great detail, it is called imagination.

I told WyreWizard of your post.  He said that only the life support systems of the X Wing would be airtight.  He said also the drive thrusters definitely weren't air tight and that he saw water leaking out of them as the X Wing was pulled out.  He said it was more feasible for the drive system to not be air tight so as to use the environment of space to be a heat sink.  Not only the drive system, but the weapon systems.  Those lasers they fire must be extremely hot so they must use the environment of space as a heat sink.  He also said the sensory system would need to not be airtight so they could give accurate readings of the spatial environment.
