One man comedy stage show from 1988 or 1989

I remember in the summer of 1989 watching a one man comedy stage show from 1988 or 1989 I'm guessing. I was on vacation and I saw this one rainy afternoon in the hotel room. All I remember is that a guy with glasses has an apartment and goes home to his apt(all of the performance was at the apt) to find a few voice mails on his answering machine and he has alot to do in a short amount of time. Situations involving his boss, girlfriend, ect. His place was messy and he would play a guitar and sing funny made up songs and dance around. Really good and brilliant actually. Anyone remember?

I just found this actually it was the Steven Banks Home Entertainment Center which played on Showtime during 1989. Thanks to all who tried to help me figure this out. Solved.
