Hello Bad Movie Lovers.  I am here today to talk bout a subgenre of horror movies I am sure most of you are familiar with.  Yes Zombie flicks.  They aren't a new thing, you know.  Zombie films have been around for a lot of years.  Almost every country has made them.  Zombies are the one humanoid monster that has appeared in many films.  I mean sure, psychopaths have been in more but since when have you seen 100 or more psychopaths in a single film?  But another thing zombies have over psychopaths is psychopaths have a soul, zombies don't.  The strength of a psychopath lies in his intelligence, zombies, their numbers.

I remember one scene from Night of the Living Dead.  The dead daughter wakes up and her mother sees her.  Enthralled, the mother just stands there, not realizing that is not her daughter she is looking at.  The daughter approaches her then bites her on the neck!

Believe it or not, Zombies are real.  But they are not the undead beings we see in movies.  What if you saw one?  Well don't worry, they won't walk up to you and bite you.  He or she would just stand there silently.  Most of these are found in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and some areas of the Bahamas.  I have even helped some of these regain their humanity by flushing out the toxins that suppress it.

But tell me, Bad Movie Lover, what is the most interesting or Scary zombie flick you have seen and why?

World War Z had some very scary zombies.

I don't think it's plausible for them to have been distributed by aircraft so far and so fast. The incubation period on that virus is way to short.

But the zombies themselves are insanely dangerous. They aren't trying to eat you: they just want to infect you. They give you a quick bite, and then they move on to the next victim. Fifteen seconds later, you're part of the horde.

If something like that DID get distributed widely somehow, I can see how it would be very hard to contain, even with modern militaries.

The best thing about WWZ was the "swarms" they were crazily animated.  I think my favourite zombie film is still 28 days later because of the darkness of it.

That makes me think the Z's are a germ warfare system that includes the psycological horror aspect on the target nation/world to denude the target of population in a short time.

A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

WORLD WAR Z was a wonderful book.

The movie utterly ruined it for me.  Max Brooks has crafted an entire scientific and historical framework for his zombies;
the movie destroyed it in two hours!

Heya Doc god to see you back!  Nice topic, I can't wait to see how this develops.

But tell me, Bad Movie Lover, what is the most interesting or Scary zombie flick you have seen and why?

I think before this question can really be answered "correctly" we should better define what a "zombie" is. As you pointed out there's the Hatian Voodoo zombies, there are the Romero walking dead zombies, there's the virus infected 28 Days later "zombies", and anything else which gets tagged with the " Z-word".

Until we get that better defined, I mainly stick with the Romero zombies and I'll list some I enjoy and why, in no particular order.

1. Night Of The Living Dead - this is a classic and I'll even go so far as to say it started the modern day zombie crazy.

2. Contracted - this is a wonderful origin story that had you cringing all the way through right up to the wonderful ending.

3. Fido - there's always been a special bond between a bit and his dog, but would you have that same relationship if you replace the dog with a zombie?

4. Black Sheep - this one is just too absurd to not enjoy.

5. Juan Of The Dead - this is an awesome Cuban zombie film that had me laughing all the way through.

6. Shaun Of The Dead - another fun movie

7. Cemetery Man - another than Anna Falchi? I really enjoyed the characters and the ending leaves a lot to think about.

That's all I've got for now, but I'm sure I'll think of more.

I don't watch a whole lot of Zombie movies. While I adore The Walking Dead I never took interest in anything like the Romero movies. Though I confess to enjoying Zombie comedy like Shaun of The Dead and Zombie land.

The scariest version of Zombies I've seen has to go to a video game, or rather a game series.

The Half-Life franchise that is.

These "Facehugger" like creatures called "Headcrabs" latch on to their victims and control their brain directly while causing the poor bastard to slowly rot while still remaining "alive". If you invert the Zombie's cry you can hear they're screaming to be put out of their misery

I have not read the book, so I didn't have that problem. I've seen many a movie based on a book (Starship Troopers, The Running Man) that had nothing in common but the title and some names.
