Someone complaining on
www.hellopeter.com about the absence of whales at the Whale Festival in Hermanus:
www.whalefestival.co.zaI have attended many festivals in South Africa and I have to say that the Whale Festival is the absolute worst. If you go to the Kersiefees in Clarens you get to eat some cherries. At the Oyster Festival in Knysna you get to eat some oysters and someone will even show you how to shuck an Oyster. At the Wildsfees in Krikwood they have game and they show you how to kill the game and skin it.
But nothing of the sort happens at the Whale Festival. There was not a single morsel of whale in sight and we looked. No harpooning displays or even some whaling equipment. The management also dismissed our complaints and kept on sending us to the music stage, where some really ****** musos played. Closest we came to a whale was that one singer who would have taken at least two harpoons to bring down.
We insist that the Whale Festival organisers apologise and take the necessary steps to inform an unsuspecting public next year that this is in fact not a Whale Festival but some ****** promotion of Hermanus whose character is best described in the last four letters of their name.
