Either he's dead or my watch has stopped!

BADLANDS (1973) was on TCM in the past week or two.  I watched it again, at least my third or fourth time.  I cannot claim to be a fan of either of the principle actors, but I cannot disavow their talent (I am a fan of WARREN OATES however).  Suddenly, I find myself not respecting this film, but actually liking it.

Small | Large

The killer of this story is based on the crimes of Charles Starkweather.  Apparently a miserable person, his crimes are not nearly so foul in the movie, the lurid details and victims of which are never addressed in this fictional telling.  Charles Starkweather was a fiend, but MARTIN SHEEN's character is not nearly so horrendous.

Speaking of Martin Sheen-I just watched APOCOLYPSE NOW redux. It has all the deleted scenes in it.
I can see why they were deleted. The Playboy bunny f**k and the weird French outpost scenes really slow the thing down. All the deleted scenes-they needed to be deleted-I mean-they are just dumb. Some are down right silly.

I first discovered BADLANDS when it was shown on television in the 1970s.  I loved it and have seen it at least 7 or 8 times since then.  THE SADIST (with Arch Hall, Jr.), STARK RAVING MAD, STARKWEATHER, KANSAS, NATURAL BORN KILLERS and several other movies are based on the same story and characters.

Badlands is an old favorite of mine.  I've only seen it once but I quite enjoyed it.  That being said I remember enjoying it, but I remember surprisingly little of it, so its in a weird category of mine of "ilms I should watch again because I thought were really good but haven't and it's been a while so I forget things'
