Same as usual, too many films from 2014, people just haven't stumbled onto or something. Or maybe they had limited releases you couldn't get to and weren't widely until this year. Maybe someone gave you super roofies and you lost conscious for an entire year.

Though, just as it was becoming tradition, I can't start a bottom 10 thread this year since the worst I've seen were merely disappointing at worst. So I suppose someone else gets the dubious honour of that.

Anyway, here's mine-

10: Mischief Night

Basically a home invasion, though one I consider pretty good. Basically, um.. well if you've ever seen a home invasion movie before you'll know what happens here. Although, the protagonist is blind, so for a while she doesn't know anything is afoot. If she knew Carlton Banks, she'd know something was a foot and a half, though.

For clarity - the movie is about a home invasion, I didn't watch it while conducting one.

9: Dark was the Night

This creature feature is mostly about people, and that's really all I can say, except that the character-driven aspects were pretty good. But then its on the list, so that kinda goes without saying.

8: The Sand

There are people ling on a beach, and when they awake, there's something under the sand. There's also a love triangle, and I'm sure somewhere, some lunatic is making theories on how the sand itself was a metaphor for the sand in that one girl's vagina, of which there were undoubtedly two kinds, figurative sand and actual sand that slipped through her bathing suit.

But really, the tension made this one. The characters' actions were pretty sensible. It treated the audience like they had a brain, at any rate.

7: Body

Which isn't the only movie featuring Larry Fessenden appearing on this list.

There's three girls, whose interaction is fairly entertaining, and they break into a house. Well, only the one who led them there knows they're breaking in. Anyway, the caretaker surprises them, and in the struggle, he is knocked down the stairs and killed. From there, the girls have to decide how to handle the situation.

6: The Harvest

I'm not really sure sure what I can say about this one without spoiling it. A young girl moves out with her grandparents after her parents die. There she meets a sick boy. The boy's mother insists he's dying, although she's quite unhinged, though able to present herself as reasonable.

Shut In:

In this movie there's a woman who's afraid of the outside, so her housekeeper says "screw this" and leaves her alone, entirely shut in. Then the movie ends. Not really though. Some other people break in, but when they let their guard down, they find themselves captured because this lady is very disturbed.

Emelie:

Some parents hire a babysitter and everything seems normal. However, that would normally be less of a movie and more of a videotape used to spy on people without there knowledge, so obviously, there's more to it.

This babysitter seems normal at first, and that's about the third movie in a row I've said that. Maybe I'm the unhinged one, and these were all one movie? I hope not. That would mean I have no chronological memory.

Wait, maybe I am the unhinged one - I remember such a thing from when people say "don't go near that crazy man!"

Anyway, there are some things she encourages that most parents wouldn't stand for. At first the kids think this is fun, but then things get out of hand. Then some secrets are discovered about the babysitter's identity.

3: Pod

Some people who contribute an amazing portrayal of siblings visit their brother, who claims to have captured something in his basement. Unfortunately he has a history of paranoia and other mental illness. Naturally what he claims happened sounds ridiculous, but he may have captured some innocent person in his basement, so the other siblings can't just leave.

2: We are Still Here

A strange movie in which some parents with a dead son move into a new house. No, they don't take their son's corpse with them. But there's something living in this house. Maybe. So their friends, who have experience with paranormal stuff drive up to investigate. Meanwhile, some big secret is being kept by the townspeople.

1: The Babadook

This actually had a lot of hype already, so there isn't much I can say.
