The world is in chaos.  A cop named Max Rockatansky has lost his wife and rather androygynous child (the sprite looks like they photoshopped together the girl from Fury Road and Sprog from the first movie).  Despairing, he steals a suped-up police interceptor and enters The Wasteland, where he hopes to find a nice, quiet place to get himself back and, it is implied, decide whether or not to kill himself.  Unfortunately, he runs afoul of a pack of War Boys led by Scabrous Scrotus.  They overpower him with sheer numbers and make off with his precious black-on-black.  Fortunately, Max is found by a hunchback named Chumbucket, who offers to build him a new car ...

This game ROCKS.  It's about as close to playing a Mad Max movie as you're ever likely to get.  The car Chumbucket pieces together for you is weak at first but, once you get a few upgrades, rolling combat is one hell of a lot of fun.  One of my favorite things to do is stop and get out.  The War Boys are so itching for combat they'll rather stupidly stop and get out to go mano-a-mano ... then you can jump back in your car and run them over.  (The Buzzards and some of the generic guys aren't that dumb, however.)  Foot combat is a lot like the recent Batman games.  You punch, kick, counter, etc.  You can pick up blunt weapons and, eventually, build Max's iconic sawed-off double-barrel.

The main thrust of the game is diminshing Scrotus's hold on the region.  This wins you allies who help you gather resources to complete your car and escape The Wasteland.  You do this by entering Scrotus's strongholds and beating everyone inside to death, allowing your allies to capture the place.  (Sort of like Skyrim, but with V8s instead of horses.)

If you get tired of that, you can play some of the racing mini-games or just wander around looking at the gorgeous environments.  I'd REALLY love to go buggying in a place like this game.

The game also puts some focus on Max's spiritual journey, emobided by a strange man named Griffa who helps Max unlock his inner strengths.  Griffa is one of my favorite things about the game.  He looks and acts just like someone straight out of an 80s Australian movie.  There are also two characters, a woman and her daughter, named Hope and Glory, who befriend Max, offering him a potential return to something like normalcy.  (Say, wasn't the weird girl in Max's visions in Fury Road named Glory?  I think she was.  Hmm...)

There are some weaknesses here.  There are people wandering around the various friendly settlements but you can't interact with them like you could with the townspeople in Skyrim and various other, similar games.  It feels kind of like that was intended at some point but dummied out.  Some people also might find the game too easy, particularly with how easy it is to find gasoline.  Although, this is based on Fury Road and set in the area around Gas Town, so it's the one place in The Wasteland where gas would be kind of easy to find.

Anyway, I love it.  If you like video games and Mad Max, you should try it out.
