Can't remember name of movie please help!

I remember this movie from when I was a kid it had to have been from the 90s to early 2000s it was set in an older time and the dad was in love with the ocean and he took his newborn baby to swim underneath and the ocean changed her eye color and I think I remember the ocean somehow killed the father. I want to say this movie was similar to Night Shmylayans The Village when it was released and how similar it's filming seemed. If anyone can find this out for me I would really appreciate it! I'm all IMDB'd and goggled out!
