I saw this for the first time ever last night: not bad at all. Jon Voight plays a German journalist who tracks down the members of an organization called ODESSA - Nazis on the lam from justice and one of whom murdered his father.

All I can say is that JON Voight IS REALLY INTENSE in this: he is so INTENSE that you think his head is going to explode sooner or later.  Buggedout

I put this in my Netflix queue a long time ago and haven't got around to watching it yet.  My mother read the book back in the 1970s and told me it was very good.

No but HE IS extremely INTENSE THROUGHOUT the film, EVEN WHEN driving A CAR OR making A PHONE CALL.  Wink

I am quite curious now, do you mean like "overacting" as in the movie Terror Beneath the Sea [1966]?

No, he's good in the role of the journalist but he is very intense: especially in the scene where he confronts his father's murderer. It's odd that he should wish to kill someone who was a Nazi, just like his father.  Question

Pretty good film It's based on Forsyth's best book and mostly does it justice.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

I can't say that I have ever had the pleasure of reading the book or seeing the film, but if one is looking for another great read by Forsyth, then try his "Day of the Jackal." Also the film adaptation of the novel is a real pleasure, and it maybe one of those films that is actually an improvement on the book.

I love the movie version of "Day of the Jackal."  In fact, I watched the DVD for about the 6th time within the past few months.  I tried reading the book when I was a teenager, but I found myself reading the first 2 or 3 pages over and over because my mind kept wandering.  So, I never got past those first pages!  The same thing happened when I was in high school and tried to read "Last of the Mohicans."  I couldn't get past Chapter 1.  I ended up reading the whole book a few years ago.  I thought it was decent, but often very slow.
