Isn't Saving Christmas more of a 'yay let's celebrate shallow commercialism' rather than the usual 'hey this Holiday is way too commericialized!'
Sort of. The intended message, I think, is "You can find the sacred in anything if you try" which isn't so bad. But as it plays out it's just Kirk berating his brother-in-law for having a "Christmas shouldn't be so commercial" attitude and slapping bizarre and mostly inaccurate symbolism onto everything associated with the holidays. It stoops to levels that would make Tommy Wiseau blush.
