The zombie apocalypse is getting attention in the real world by both the military and science - are they up to something?

Military - just google "CONPLAN 8888".
Serious question from me: Is that serious? The pdf makes a hilarious read though (e.g. here: http://www.cubadebate.cu/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/CONPLAN-8888.pdf)

Scientists from Cornell University modeled the zombie apocalypse - good for you if you live in the Rocky Mountains, apparently. An abstract to their talk at a conference is here http://meeting.aps.org/Meeting/MAR15/Session/S48.8
