While I consider him an actor of limited range, he'll never play Hamlet.

Seems related:

Since Schwarzenegger is too old now, Dwayne should do this movie...

Gosh darn it.  Clicked on the YouTube link to Hamlet, then had a sudden Arnie-fest that took a chunk out of my work time.  Oh well...

I enjoy his movies generally. Its a shame he hasn't had a breakout role thats really made him as an actor, but he does seem to improve pretty much anything he has put in. I've heard him being refered to as 'franchise viagra' (athough not since GI Joe 2).

i detest wrestling with a passion. but him as an actor i honestly like. his acting does get better with each film.

but he is simply miscast cause what he looks like. action and comedy, if he does a drama i'd be interested in how he does in that?

Lol. After clicking on the Last Action Hero clip, I found myself waylaid by another hour or so of random clips from Pumping Iron, Conan, Raw Deal and many others.

I'll tell you a little secret... after writing the message I clicked on my link, saw improved Hamlet, and saw the Schwarzenegger killing reel for 20 minutes or so. In other words, I did pretty much what you did. :D

But it is Schwarzenegger, so it is ok.

He's a bit up and down for my tastes. Overall he has that friendly charisma thing going on. He was pretty much the only thing I liked about the Get Shorty sequel and that was, for the time, one of his first non-serious action star roles. Since then he's been a mixture of friendly goof and serious 'going to punch someone.'

Really I find him a bit hammy, but then again I like that about Bruce Campbell. Overall I think he's pretty alright though!

I saw an interview where he said they changed the character's name from Buford to Chris because he couldn't imagine anyone calling him Buford.

I remember being a bit surprised at his performance in GRIDIRON GANG.  The story was a bit cliche'd in its execution, unfortunately (especially unfortunate since it was loosely based on a real story), but he did a fine job.

Similarly, I think he did a fine job in RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN.

He seems to have this way about exceeding expectations.  When he is really challenged in a tough role far outside his comfort zone, I would not be surprised (at this point) to see him turn in an excellent performance that turns a lot of heads.

In my opinion, the dude deserves more respect as an actual actor than many seem to want to give him as an "ex wrestler."

And, no, I'm not really a 'fan boy' ... but I do like "underdogs" in general, and in the acting world, he seems like one.  I think he has chops far in excess of some out there getting the roles he could likely do better with.

i hate sports to death, i'm sorry i do i'm one of those  rare guys that hates sports and would rather watch a good or a bad movie than watch any kind of sports. having said that i don't mind sports films and that football film he did well that one he was actually pretty good in it. plus that is really a great film in my book. i haven't seen a lot of his film though. so i can't say how good he is in others but his acting has i think vastly improved over the years. and there will come a time when he will have to stop making action flix. i wonder if he'll still be acting than?

I think he's funny when I've seen him on Saturday Night Live. However, he's never been featured in anything close to a good movie. He needs a better agent.

i dunno i've seen him in some good movies, i tell you one thing if i had to chose between him and Channing Tatum a guy who has no personality, an empty paper bag has more life into it when it's in a film that he does in anything he does, i would pick Dwayne Johnson any day. and he also seems like a real down to earth kind of guy in real life too.

Well, yeah, I'd rather watch an empty paper bag than Channing Tatum, too.  Smile

than we agree on that. you know when i 1st saw the film fighting with channing tatum a few years back, i thought the movie itself was ok, it needed a better script but than Terrance Howard was great in that. but he was really the only thing that was good about that film. the Channing Tatum part which was of course him as the star and this was before he became famous his character was fine. but the fight you see at the end of the film was so unclimatic that you wondered why they made such a big deal out of it.

why did i bring that film up? simple it's the 1st film i ever saw him. and i still wonder how he's going to be stinking Gambit in the next X-man movie! sorry i just had to rant a bit off topic, as for Dwayne Johnson he's like any actor if you think about it, yes he's done some stinkers but there also are films of his i enjoyed as well and that football film is one of them.
