A Missouri jury ordered a debt buyer to pay nearly $83 million to a Kansas City woman it pursued for a $1,000 credit card bill she didn't owe

"This outlandish verdict defies all common sense," wrote spokesman Michael McKeon.

Suing someone over debt that ISN'T THEIRS doesn't defy all common sense?!  That's debt collector logic for you.

Yeah, $83 million IS outlandish. The statute provides for a $250,000 penalty, which is more than fair. This woman was wronged, no doubt, but why should she become a multi-millionaire from it while thousands of people in the exact same situation get absolutely nothing? If it was a class action suit and that money was going to be split between everyone the collection company had wronged, THAT would be fair.
