After watching  PIECES again last night I'm in the mood for some more weirdness in the slasher genre so bring on any recommendations.

Apart from being one of the goriest slashers I've seen PIECES is also one of the weirdest, with cenes that make no kind of sense whatsoever, either on their own or in relation to the plot, and some really bizarre attempts at comedy chucked in as well!

I also remember THE NOSTRIL PICKER being really surreal as well, but I need to see it again. (that's listed as 1993 but I know it was made in the 80s. suggestions not from the 80s are welcome also, I just prefer that era)

There is of course Boardinghouse (1982) with slasher elements. And Aerobicide (1987) is a must see.

strange, I just watched Aerobicide for the first time in about 5 years a couple of nights ago. I was actually going to mention it but didn't. the strangest part is the fact they all carry on doing workouts every day despite the fact there's a deranged killer in the gym?!

- and also funnily enough Skull just ID'd Boardinghouse for me in 'what was that film' the other day, looking to track that down. I've seen it before but can't remember all of it but I remember it being weird.

that's an amazing scene of randomness, as is the skateboard girl scene, and the ending

don't think I've seen Cheerleader Camp, thanks for that!

Pieces is a hard act to follow...

My picks... (assuming you had not seen any of these flicks)

Beyond the Darkness (1979) ok this isn't a 1980's slasher... but it's just as good (or even better! then your typical slasher stuff) Lots of gore!

Macabre (1980)

We watched and reviewed the 1984 slasher Fatal Games here:

http://secondclasscinema.podbean.com/e/episode-19-fatal-games-1984

It's a decent 80's slasher with a bit of a twist at the end, might scratch that itch for you.  Here are some great moments in GIF form.

Edge Of The Axe looks fun, not seen Faceless either. Telly Savalas in a slasher? I guess anything Jess Franco will be weird. Seen all the rest - really like Bloody Moon, made a thread about it the other week.

DEATH SPA (1988)-sweet geebus-so bad-!

I thought I had seen this but looking at the trailer maybe I haven't... looks hilarious, will definitely check it out. Interestingly the voiceover guy even says "killer workout" (the alternate title of Aerobicide) in the trailer

The Majorettes is kind of a weird one.

Small | Large

I guess they keep repeating "one by one" because that was the movie's name outside of the US, as other countries apparently don't have majorettes.

we do have majorettes over here. the one thing we don't have is cheerleaders, that just isn't a thing in England or at least not like in USA from what I gather. that trailer's not allowed outside US I think, found the whole movie on youtube though., bookmarked for later...

@SecondClass, listened to your review and the more you slated the movie the more I wanted to see it! - especially as you compared it to Pieces at the end. it's on YT so will watch it later. seems to have no DVD release

thanks, only seen couple of those. I love X-Ray, personal favourite... tbh I'm not a big fan of the Slumber Party Massacre movies, it feels like they're trying to push the comedy element a bit too much for my liking, which I find a bit annoying...

watched about half of The Majorettes and it's not that weird really, has the vibe of an old tv movie that could've be shown in the afternoon, except for the kills - some great scenes of terrible dubbing though  Smile

just remembered an extremely weird one, ROCK N ROLL NIGHTMARE. nothing makes sense in it, especially the big final scene which seems to have been imported from a completely different movie! it's great entertainment though

The Forrest (1982) has its share of weirdness, mixing slasher with ghosts and I think cannibalism.
