I'm a Mac...

My cousin - who is a realtor - told me about this.  (She's not licensed in Illinois though).

Quote
Historic Ably House located on 41 acres with 2 Natural Springs. Located less than 15 miles outside of Galena. The home is sold As-Is with a Sound Structure & Seller is offering the Buyer a 1 Year Home Warranty which includes HVAC. The land is mostly wooded. Limestone Bluffs on property are magnificent. The property is in a secluded location. I recommend Buyers Google - Ably House - although usually mentioned in Galena - the home is located in Scales Mound, IL. Buyers need to be provide Pre-approval or Proof of Funds prior to showing. The barn & additional 3 acres can be purchase separately from the neighboring property Owner.

You know it's a house you wanna think about before buying when the agent suggests you head to the Googles for more information on the property.  The house was the site of a number of unusual deaths and is reputed to be haunted.

Obviously someone in Illinois wants someone with lots of $$$ to shut up and take their money.

Electronic devices petering out, cold spots, walls dripping blood.... I think ghosts need to develop some new tricks. That stuff's sounding cliched. Now a house that cleans itself, that'd be worth noticing.

I LOVE the Galena area!  I don’t doubt that there were deaths in this house, but I do have doubts about it being as haunted as suggested.  I have not been to many places in my life, but I would still bet that Galena is one of the most architecturally and geologically beautiful towns in America.  Aside from its beauty, Galena has a very interesting, but brief, history.   It seems that once the history lessons run out, the ghost stories begin and run rampant – I think it’s partially to capture the attention of the tourists who don’t really care about civil war generals, lead mining, and driftless areas.  I’ve been to Galena a few times and there are several ghost tours, and some would have you believe every square inch of the town and surrounding areas is the site of a bloody murder and, of course, haunted.  The stories are entertaining though and I would never be one to openly scoff, but many are quite unbelievable and obviously fashioned to market other local points of interest.  There is a historian – a really cool guy - who does a ghost tour, and I’ve read some reviews where people said his tour was “boring” but I think that’s because he doesn’t sensationalize and some of his stories actually end with discrediting the supernatural.

I would love to live in the Galena area someday, but not in that house!  More for the work that needs to be done and less for the possible ghosts.  But also because of the possible ghosts!  I thought there was something about limestone that could be scientifically linked to ghostly apparitions, though this would not be a traditional haunting, it could still scare the poop out of me!

Side note: When we stayed in the DeSoto House in Galena, my husband insists ghosts closed his laptop Lookingup.

I was here this weekend!  We were in Galena for the weekend and originally I had forgotten about this, but we heard the story in one of our tours and then I remembered the house was for sale.  My friend and I have been looking for a property with buildings and acreage to start a business so we were super pumped to go see it.  It's currently off the market, but we drove out anyway, just in case it comes back on because it doesn't appear to have been sold.  We first went on Sunday and tried to get there before dark, but the road going to the house was so unused and overgrown that we got there after dark.  The drive was terrifying because we didn't expect it to be in such a rural area and once we got in too deep we started thinking this might be the hangout of some riff-raff that was going to slash our tires and have their way with us.  We also had to drive under some tunnels that were covered in graffiti, including a giant bubble letter "BOO" which was both hilarious and horrifying.  If we ran into trouble, I had a large whiskey barrel in the back so we planned to drive up a hill on our rims and set the barrel on them a la donkey kong while we make our getaway, but thankfully, there were no incidents.  In the dark, we saw the wrong house, but all agreed it was super creepy and left.

We came back on Monday morning and climbed up to the train tracks to survey the area.  It was actually very beautiful.  It appeared a bit sad, but not scary in the least.  In the daylight, even the tunnel graffiti was pleasant, with things like "Love your Life" and "Be Nice" scrawled on the walls.

Sprite - If your cousin has any other info on this, let me know (I'm trying to get the parcel #)!  I think part of the road going to the property was washed out recently which I suspect is the reason it went off the market, but I'd really like to know for sure.
