I must admit, I'm not a big Adam Sandler fan. The only one of his films I've seen is "The Waterboy." And much to my surprise I enjoyed it. Though, my enjoyment of it has never inspired me to watch another one of his films. Even this one, though, as I said, from what I saw of the trailer, it does seem to be one of his better films.

Of his films I could recommend The Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison.

Which is why a recent issue of "GQ Magazine" rated all 29 of Mr. Sandler's films, excluding "Pixels," which is his 30th film. What works against this is "GQ" is not a big fan of Mr. Sandler, they are not even neutral on the subject. Still . . .?! From best to worst.

29 Happy Gilmore. His best film
22 The Water boy. The one I remember seeing.
10 Bedtime Stories. The one I do not remember seeing. Probably on purpose. Though . . .?! I seem to remember I enjoyed it.
01 Jack and Jill. His worst film

Anybody watch the Moviebob review of Pixels?

Frankly, I found it more hilarious than the last several Sandler movies.

That list is dumb.  I mean...I don't even want to comment on it.  Lists are dumb mostly anyway.

I like Sandler.  He's far from the best, but he's also far from the worst.  He seems to be modern day Pauly Shore.  Funny guy with a terrible ability in picking out quality scripts.

Sadler put on a very strong performance against type in Punch Drunk Love.

I love the concept - "Ghostbusters" meets "Wreck It Ralph!" - but I really really wish it starred someone other than Sandler.

I absolutely cannot stand Adam Sandler.  At all.  I generally refuse to give him a single dime of my money or justify his existence in movie making in any way, shape or form.

But, the family chose PIXELS without me realizing it was Sandler.  My bad for not doing my homework BEFORE and knowing what it was.  They said PIXELS looks fun, lets watch that.  I said okay and away we went...much to my initial chagrin.

More on this in a bit.

I'm guessing critics s**t all over this because iof Adam Sandler and never gave Pixels a fair shot.

And, here I agree 100%.

A lot of the negative reviews I read (remember that I generally read reviews AFTER I've seen a movie) seemed to have the common theme of saying "ANOTHER Sandler movie that's the same as those before it."

I began to realize that this might be why we/I enjoyed this one.  We don't watch Sandler movies, so we were not burned out on his 80's nostalgia shtick and not burned out on his "acting" and such.  His portrayal was annoying but also occasionally funny/quirky in a way that would NOT have been so if we were already sick of this character from other movies.

I liked the concept of the movie and I liked the nostalgia of it as well.  I dug the references to the old video games...games that paved the way for what is modern gaming.

I had a LITTLE bit of trouble with Kevin James as President, but hey, it's a comedy and that's, well, off kilter enough to be a platform for some good jokes.  (I don't dislike Kevin James, but his "goofy" just doesn't seem electable to me but who knows).

Overall I liked this movie and was shocked to see it rated so low.  In fact, I started to come here and start a thread about the pompous elitism of critics...judging this movie not on ITS merits but on the fact that you have a preconceived notion about based on who's in it (or whatever) is pretty far from honest criticism.  It's not better than people liking say a Spielberg flick that sucks just because it has his name on it.

Bottom line, we enjoyed this movie a lot as a family.  It's no "award winner," but we don't ask that of our movies.  It delivered what we asked of it (to entertain us for 1-2 hours and gave us some laughs).  I can think of no better PRAISE for a movie and I'd like to tel the pompous a-hole critics to stop fooling themselves.  No one really cares what you think anyway.

I RedBoxed "Pixels" as per my 8 year old son's request last weekend, and we had the same reaction. It's fun for kids, it's relatively painless for their parents. We probably will never feel the need to see it  again, but it was a fun one-shot.
