I'm a Mac...

« on: August 18, 2015, 11:58:55 PM »

My sister announced the other day that she and my brother in law are planning to move to the Orlando, Florida area by the end of this year.  Being a pharmacist the money is a lot better down there.

I won't get to see them as much now, nor will I get to see my feline niece and nephew as much either.  I'm sure they picked out Orlando cause they like the idea of living near all the theme parks.  I have no real desire to visit any of those parks.  At least there are some direct flights to Orlando for cheap.

My thought exactly. Maybe she can be our "reporter in the field," so to speak.

I have learned it is unhealthy to ask a woman's age, but . . .?! Is she planning on working full time or part time, when she gets there? Now, that Universal and Disney have seemingly gone to war o'er the tourist $ . . .

Universal
--a new water park to replace Wet 'n' Wild. The 1st water park in the U.S.
--maybe a new hotel. Their 5th.
--Universal Studio Orlando
----Hello, Kitty! Store. Apparently, the 1st in the U.S.
----Twister being replaced by Soarin' Over New York City. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
--Islands of Adventure
----updates and enhancements to . . .
------Jurassic Park
------Marvel Super Hero Island
------Nintendo Land. With 1 or more attractions featuring the characters.

Disney sees that and raises the roof.

Walt Disney World
--Magic Kingdom
----Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen. Your boat skipper is now your waiter. Let's see 'em do that on "Gilligan's Island."
--EPCOT
----World Showcase
------The Norway pavilion gets a ride based on "Frozen."
----Future World
------Soarin' gets . . .
--------another theater. a new screen. a new sound system. and a new film "Soarin' Around the World."
------Innoventions becomes . . .
--------Super Heroes HQ with meet 'n' greets and Iron Man Tech.
--Disney's Animal Kingdom
----Rivers of Light. A new nighttime show.
----Kilimanjaro Safaris gets . . .
-------hyenas, wild dogs, and a new nighttime adventure.
----Avatar Land has as its . . .
------a main attraction where a banshee takes one o'er and thru Avatar. And James Cameron gets his Soarin'.
--Disney Hollywood Studios
----Toy Storyland (11 acres) of . . .
------a family friendly rollercoaster
------an alien saucer attraction. Beware the Claw!
------Toy Story Mania gets a 3rd track
----Star Wars Land (14 acres) of . . .
------shops
------rides and attractions
--------take control of the Millennium Falcon
--------be put in the middle of a climatic space battle
------eating places
------and an honest to goodness cantina like the one in Mos Eisley.

but . . .?! That's later, as for the immediate future . . .

------Star Tours : the Adventure Continues gets a new adventure featuring the characters and locations of "Star Wars : Episode VII : the Force Awakens.'
------Jedi Training Academy gets new characters and a new villain based on "Star Wars : Rebels" the TV series
------Star Wars Launch Bay with . . .
--------interactive experiences, special exhibits, special food offerings, and special merchandise.
------Season of the Future with . . .
--------a new fireworks show that operates seasonally.
--Downtown Disney now Disney Springs
----exclusive shops
----exclusive places to eat
----and Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar. themed after the Indiana Jones series and named after the pilot in the series Jock Lindsey.

Now, would seem to be a good time to seek part time or full time employment at either theme park, if one is interested. For not only will the demand for people to fill those jobs be greater, but . . . the variety of jobs will be almost as great. For example . .

Can you walk on stilts and wear full body makeup? Then they are looking for you to play the people of Avatar.

Can you stay in character the entire time while on stage? They are looking for you to play the people in the Star Wars Universe, when Star Wars Land opens.

As I am on a library PAC, I see my time is almost up, thus will stop this discussion now and continue with . . . Golden Oaks.

Continuing with Golden Oaks

Orlando has its places . . .
that are better than other places,
has better schools than other places,
has cheaper living costs than other places,
but . . .?!

The only one I am familiar with is . . .
Golden Oaks.
A residential community built on land owned by the Walt Disney Company, which makes it part of Walt Disney World, and thus offers its residents benefits that are not available to us mere mortals.
I don't know how much a pharmacist makes, but . . .?! here the homes start around $2 mill and go up from there, which is far beyond my budget.

I wish I knew more about the area, but . . .?!
As many times as I've been to Orlando over the many years, my area has been restricted to that between the airport and the theme parks and back again and/or Port Canaveral for a cruise and the airport and back again. Still . . .?

There are many websites on the world wide web specific to Orlando or not so specific, which bear checking out. Many of them with message boards. Register. Login. Post your question. And most likely receive an answer.

Thus, good luck and good fortune to your sister, your brother-in-law, and their children on their upcoming move.

Did you tell her about the soul-devouring Hell-mouth directly under Orlando?
