IOWA CITY — An Illinois man faces charges after attempting to steal beer from a beer truck.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 19-year-old Jack J. McNamara, of Evergreen Park, Ill., and a juvenile were seen stealing beer from a closed storage area on a beer truck parked at 100 Iowa Avenue around 3 a.m. Sept. 5. Police said witnesses confronted McNamara and the juvenile, who returned some of the beer, but then threatened to cut the witnesses.
Police said witnesses pointed out McNamara and the juvenile to an officer and told them they were armed with sharp glass. An officer stopped the duo and told them to face away from him and go to the ground. Police said McNamara refused to comply, turned to face the officer and started recording the officer with his phone.
McNamara refused to comply with the officer’s commands until the officer threatened to deploy his Taser. Both McNamara and the juvenile appeared to be drunk, police said. McNamara refused a preliminary breath test. After he was arrested, police found a fake ID on him.
