Some actors are good at being real mugs! Karloff-in his CRIMINAL CODE (1931) and SCARFACE (1931) days was quite the mug.
But hands down for me is Sterling Hayden in the ASPHALT JUNGLE (1950).
One of my favorite scenesin the movie-the lineup-
"Put on yer hat."
And when the witness chickens out-just because Sterling is glaring at him-classic.
He'sa scary MF.

I love the little smirk he gives the shmoe witness-
"Put on yer hat".

I wouldnt wanna f**k with Sterling either!

I guess a good modern example is ex rugby player turned actor Vinnie Jones

He typically plays physically imposing bad guys like in X-Men 3

Lawrence Tierny and Lon Chaney Jr were on the lot just hanging in their trailers drinking and floating crap games. One of Al Adamson's movies.
John Carradine-he was quit the boozer-as was Lugosi-of course-Marilyn Monroe,James Dean.

Some just died for-nothing.
Lon Chaney Sr-cancer.Sharon Tate-murder.Janis Joplin-drinking yourself to death.
