A: More of the same.
As they know that is what we want to see.

From Paramount
--More Transformers
--More Star Trek

From Sony Columbia
--More Spiderman

From Universal/NBC/Comcast
--More Fast and Furious
--More Jurassic Park

From Warner
--More Batman
--More DC
--More Harry Potter
--More Superman

From 20th Century Fox
--More X-Men

And from Disney
--More Animation
--More live action remakes of animated films
--More Marvel
--More Pixar

--More Lucas Film
----More Indiana Jones
------with Harrison Ford. Though, not our Indy.

----More Star Wars
------3 stand alones

--------2016 Rogue One
Looking at the stills for this one and the stills from the ending of Episode 4 - A New Hope. Will this one be better? Probably not, but . . .?! It looks more interesting for several reasons.
1st, Down and dirty looks more interesting to me than the bright and shiny in ANH.
2nd The Arabic, Asian, Latino looking actors look more interesting to me than all the white bread actors in ANH.
3rd If you are white, then you stand out more then rather get lost in all the white actors in ANH.

--------2018 A Han Solo
What is rumored is now fact, as it is under the capable hands of the Kasdans, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. If the last 2 are not familiar, then think "Legos Movie."

--------2020 A Boba Fett?

--------2017 Episode VIII

--------2019 Episode IX

But . . .?! That only takes us up to 2020, and these are suppose to take us into the mid '20's. That would happen if . . .?!

--------2021 Episode X

--------2023 Episode XI

--------2025 Episode XII

Especially, as the figures just keep coming fast and furious. Star Wars : Episode VII - The Force Awakens is the #1 film in the U.S. at the box office. Surpassing "Avatar." The #7 film in the world at the box office. And it is not only the Americans that are eating it up, so are the Germans, where it has been the #1 film at the box office for 3 or 4 weeks in a row, despite of or because of The 1st Order is modeled after the 3rd Reich.

To be continued . . .

Next time: we'll focus in on the last studio named.

b=billion
m=million

With a gross income of $52.5b in 2015
and a net profit of $14.7b in 2015.

At a net worth of $187b or a net worth larger than some countries.
Making it the largest and biggest entertainment conglomerate the world has ever seen.

Not bad for a company that began from bankruptcy
and consisted of 2 brothers making black 'n' white silent animated short subjects in their uncle's garage in L.A.

Next time: the why and how or "everything is connected."

Continuing with . . .

The how and the why or "Everything is connected."

And it has been for almost 60 years, or ever since Walt himself mapped out the connections possible. For example . . .

How ever much SW7 : TFA earns at the box office in 2015 and 2016, it'll likely be no more than 26.16% of its total earnings for those 2 years. The rest will come from . . .

TV licensing
235m (52.339%) domestic
214m (47.661%) international
449m total (4.927%)

Video gaming
780m (60.938%) Battlefront
500m (39.062%) Disney Infinity 3.0
1.280b total (14.046%)

Merchandise
5b both domestically and internationally
(54.867%)

Total 9.311b

With m = million
And b = billion

Though, neither SW7 : TFA nor Walt was the 1st to make all the connections between a beloved film character and all its spin-offs.

Next time: the 1 that was 1st.

Before there was Mickey, before there was Oswald, there was . . .

"Felix the Cat. Felix the Cat. That wonderful, wonderful cat and his magic bag of tricks."

And his arch foe Professor Poindexter.

The 1st non-human cartoon star. So, popular was he, that the very 1st image ever broadcast on a TV screen was that of Felix the Cat, who spun off . . .

Felix the Cat books -- Felix the Cat comic strips -- Felix the Cat dolls -- Felix the Cat figurines -- Felix the Cat notepads -- Felix the Cat pencils -- Felix the Cat sheet music -- Felix the Cat songs -- and even Felix the Cat cigars.

They knew what they had. They just did not know what to do with him. Thus, where is he now? Forgotten except in the remembrances of those old enough to remember him.

The gift that keeps on giving.

Top 10 Fictional Characters in Sell Merchandise in 2014. (Where B = Billion)

01. Mickey and Friends ($4B)
02. Hello, Kitty (not) ($3.8B)
03. Winnie the Pooh ($2.7B)
04. Disney Princesses ($2.6B)
05. Star Wars ($2.4B)
06. Cars ($2B)
07. Spider-man ($1.5B)
08. Frozen ($1.4B)
09. Angry Birds (not) ($1.3B)
10. Peanuts (not) ($1.2B)

Thus . . .?!
Total $22.9B
not $6.3B
other $16.6B
or . . .
not 27.511%
other 72.489%

And if it is to be believed, other will become even more dominate when the sales of Star Wars merchandise reaches somewhere between $5B and $6B in sales.

Next time: success breed success.

Success breed success.

We have highly successful people in Hollywood coming to . . .

Lucas Film, because we are told so.

Or more likely their agents and saying:

Marvel, because we are told so.

"What do you have for my client, as he/she wants to do a film with you?"

Pixar, because we are told so.

Because while they have not always been successful in the past, or will they always be in the future . . .

And the other one as well.

They are more likely to be successful than not, and that means that rarity in Hollywood, a steady paycheck till the franchise ends.

And here are some examples of that.

Shakira with the animated Zootopia."
Robert Redford with the remake of "Pete's Dragon."
Chloe "Kickass" Moretz with the live action remake of "The Littlest Mermaid."
and Ty Burrell and Kaitlin Olsen with Pixar's "Finding Dory."

Next time: continuing with this theme in "what do Millennials want, and where are they going to get it?"

Continuing with "success breeds success" with . . .
"With what do Millennials want, and where are they going to get it?"

Millennials (age 15 to 29) want . . .
1st. a premium on employee welfare
2nd. a flexible work schedule.
3rd. a sense of purpose.

And where do they think they can get it?
01. Google
02. The Walt Disney Company
03. St. Jude's Children Research Hospital
04. Apple
05. The FBI
----
07. Microsoft
08. The CIA
----
11. Amazon
----
16. The New York Times
17. Starbucks
----
19. NSA
----
29. Facebook
----
42. The Army
43. JP Morgan Chase
----
50. Build-a-Bear Workshop

And the meaning (IMHO) . . .
a. In 2015 one third of the American workforce was Millennials.
b. In 2020 half of the American workforce will be Millennials.
c. These are your best and brightest.
d. Thus, they want to be with the successful, or those that give the perception of the successful.
e. Thus, success will breed more success or c + d = e.
f. The quality of the employee will remain high.
g. It pays to advertise. All are well known employers.
h. #3 seems to be an unusual choice compared to the other choices possible.
I. The interest in government service indicates that the government will be in good hands.
j.Though, government service in the military (i.e. the Army) has been replaced by civilian government service (the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, etc.)
k. Still the military places higher than some civilian employees.
l. How many employers are there in the U.S.? Thus, even 50th and last places high among Millennials.
m. Despite what is said, nothing can be totally assumed.
n. And be careful what you wish for. You may get it.

Next time: it takes money to make money.

"It takes money to make money."

Or, what can you buy for $15.5 billion?

$7.4 billion Pixar
$4.0 billion Marvel
$4.1 billion Lucas Film

Though, sometimes the best road to success is failure. When Jobs owned the company, having bought it from Lucas, not seeing any future in it, he tried to sell it for $50 million, or what he originally paid for it + the money he had put into it, since he 1st bought it. Even at that rock bottom, bargain basement price, he couldn't find any buyers for it. Only to sell it later for $7.4 billion or 148 times what he originally wanted for it.

How the rich and successful get richer and more successful . . . and bigger.

2006 Pixar
2009 Marvel
2012 Lucas Film

but . . .?! nothing in 2015, and with the CEO retiring, supposedly, in 2018, what a better way than to purchase something else. The most likely target being the Legos Group with whom the Company has a beneficial financial and good working relationship. Till then . . .?!

1 new show on Netflix.
"Iron Fist" with Finn Jones in the title role.
2 new cruise ships.
1 in 2021 + 1 in 2023. With 1 being rumored to be home ported in Asia. So think Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, etc.
3rd new theme park in China.
Depending upon how the 1 in Shanghai does. Which would be 1 more than in the U.S.

The 1st of 6 or
What NBC/Universal plan to release for the rest of 2016?

04/18/16 The Boss
04/18/16 Mr. Right
04/20/16 The Huntsman : Winters War
04/29/16 Ratchet and Clank
05/20/16 Neighbors 2 : Sorority Rising
06/13/16 Pop star : Never Stop Never Stopping
06/10/16 War craft
07/01/16 Purge : Election Year
07/08/16 Secret Life of Pets
07/29/16 Jason Bourne
08/12/16 Spectral
08/19/16 Kubo and the 2 Strings
09/06/16 Bridget Jones' Baby
10/07/16 Girl on the Train
10/14/16 Kevin Hart : What Now
10/14/16 A Monster Calls
10/21/16 Ouija 2
11/14/16 Loving
11/11/16 A Meyer's Christmas
12/09/16 Let It Snow
12/21/16 Sing

Just looking at the titles, it looks like they are releasing 8 or 9 sequels, remakes, prequels, what have you, or throw up everything and see what sticks. Though, the only title that interests me, so far, and that may change as release dates get nearer is "The Huntsman : Winter's War," even though it reminds me of both "The Golden Compass" and "The Hunger Games."

Next time: the 2nd of 6.

The 2nd of 6 or . . .
films to be released by Sony Columbia for the rest of 2016.

05/13/16 Money Monster
05/20/16 Angry Birds
06/24/16 Shallows
07/15/16 Ghostbusters (2016)
08/12/16 Sausage Party
09/02/16 Patient Zero
09/23/16 Magnificent 7
09/23/16 TBA
10/28/16 Inferno
12/21/16 Passengers

Fewer films in 2016 than NBC Universal, but . . .?! I wonder if that is not for the best. Instead of throwing everything out there to see what sticks, target your audience.

Of those listed, there are 2 I am interested in seeing so far, though that may change as release dates get closer, and they are the remakes of "Ghostbusters" and "Magnificent 7."

The 3rd of 6 or . . .
films to be released by Time Warner for the rest of 2016.

04/15/16 Barbershop : the Next Cut
04/29/16 Keanu
05/20/16 The Nine Guys
06/03/16 Me Before You
06/10/16 The Conjuring 2
06/17/16 Central Intelligence
07/01/16 The Legend of Tarzan
07/22/16 Lights Out
08/05/16 Suicide Squad
08/19/16 War Dogs
09/09/16 Sully
09/09/16 TBA
09/23/16 Sticks
10/14/16 The Accountant
11/04/16 Bastards
11/18/16 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
12/16/16 Collateral Beauty

4 prequels, remakes, sequels, etc. 23.529%

The only one that interests me at this moment is "The Legend of Tarzan." Always up for a new Tarzan film, even though it looks like he has traded in his loincloth for a pair of shorts.

Domestic box office gross or the big and rich get bigger and richer. Unless you get smaller and poorer.

2009
Warner 20%

2015
Universal 22%
Disney 20%
Warner 14%
20th Century Fox 13%
Sony 9%
All others including Viacom Paramount 22%

Two problems with these statistics. (1st) International box office has become more important to a film's success, then domestic box office, as over half of American films now earn more money overseas than they do at home. (2nd) Box office is becoming less important, as it is only a means to get people to buy the film's merchandise, where the real money is. Though, Time Warner is off to a good start with its "Batman vs. Superman," or, bad reviews does not = good box office.

Next time: the 4th of 6.

The 4th of 6, or the films to be released by Viacom Paramount for the rest of 2016.

00/00/16 Silence
06/03/16 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Out of the Shadows
07/22/16 Star Trek Beyond
08/12/16 Florence Foster Jenkins
08/19/16 Ben Hur (2016)
10/21/16 Jack Reacher : Never Go Back
10/28/16 Rings
11/23/16 Allied
12/09/16 Office Christmas Party

Sequels, remakes, prequels, etc. 4 out of 9 or about 44%, or how do you spell "Trouble?" V-I-a-c-o-m P-a-r-a-m-o-u-n-t. or why of the 6 major film studios, Viacom Paramount has had the lowest domestic box office gross, not only for the past year or 2015, but . . .?! for the previous 4 years.

This is not 5th. This is 6th, but . . .?! I thought I reverse them, while the news was fresh.

6th of 6 or films to be released or released in 2016 by the Walt Disney Company.

Zootopia
a possible $1 billion at the box office. Both domestic and international.

The Jungle Book
another possible $1 billion at the box office. Both domestic and international.
At least it made back its cost of $175 million.
Domestic box office to date $252.1 million or 36.81%
International box office to date $432.7 million or 63.19%
Total box office $684.8 million.

Compare this to "The Huntsman : Winter's War,"
which needed the international box office to make back its cost of $115 million.
Domestic box office to date $34 million or 26%
International box office to date $97 million or 74%.
Total box office $131 million.

05/06/16 Captain America : Civil War
With an expected opening weekend of $200 million,
having already earned $200 million internationally and setting box office records, where it has opened.
And just think of all the possible merchandise possibilities.
And let us not forget Black Panther, who appears in this, and gets his own film in 2018.

05/27/16 Alice Through the Looking Glass
Sequel to "Alice in Wionder land"

06/17/16
Finding Dory
Sequel to "Finding Nemo"

07/01/16
The BFG
Based upon the children's novel by Roald Dahl.

08/12/16
Peter's Dragon
a different interpretation of the 1977 film.

09/02/16
The Light Between Oceans

09/23/16
The Queen of Katwe

11/04/16
Doctor Strange

11/23/16
Moana

12/16/16
Rogue One : a Star Wars Story
And next year merchandise from the film on May 4 or May the 4th Be With You.
With 37 companies this year offering discounted and/or new and unique Star Wars merchandise on that day.

And all this adds up to a possible box office of $5 billion. Both domestically and internationally. No movie studio in the history of Hollywood has earned that much at the box office in one year. The Company is just steam rolling the other studios.

Next time: 5th of 6 or the films to be released by 20th Century Fox in 2016.

Out of order, but . . .?! This is the 5th of 6th or the films to be released by Twentieth-Century Fox for the remaining of this year or 2016.

00/00/16 Keeping Up with the Joneses
05/27/16 X-Men : Apocalypse
06/24/16 Independence Day : Resurgence
07/08/16 Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
07/22/16 Ice Age : Collision Course
09/30/16 Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
11/04/16 Trolls
12/21/16 Assassin's Creed
12/25/16 Why Him?

Next time: then there were 3 and final comments
