Hi all... This just came on my radar:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120199/

Is it worth the effort?

I saw it when it came out and can't remember a darn thing about it now. That may be your answer.

It's actually pretty amusing, but the plot is Swiss cheese.

I've heard of it but never have seen it.  It's been on my Netflix queue for quite a while.  Have read that came be a ton of fun.

Of course, it reminds of the Deep Purple song, too.  Now I've got it in my head (there are worse earworms to have rattling around).

It's a pleasant, mindless diversion. The square pigs are the best thing in the whole movie.

Yes, I said "square PIGS".

That, and Debi Mazer in her underwear.

In one of the weird things I remember  about this movie,  I think it was one of the first times I was really aware of what TV Tropes calls "Reverse Ninja".  In other words, when you encounter one supposed unstoppable opponent, its as tough as can be and required all your skill and more to stop it.  Encounter a dozen, and suddenly they start falling like flies from the slightest hit.

It has its moments.  The robots are pretty badass, and there is one fight sequence with them that is REALLY well handled.  It's fairly brief but really sticks out in my mind.  Probably because the stunts were done by Koichi Sakamoto, who did Drive and a few other films with surprisingly great fights.  I also like the pirate bad guy.  It's worth watching.

I believe they call it "Conservation of Ninjitsu": One ninja is nearly unstoppable, but get a dozen together and the distributed ninjitsu is much weaker.

I have a vague recollection of catching that flick on HBO back in the day. About all I remember is that Debi Mazar and Dennis Hopper were in it.

One of my favorite mindless pleasures. Hammy villain, space pirates, cool trucks, slapstick, weirdness, evil robots, square pigs, and of course Dennis Hopper. Thumbup
