Just to get an idea of what would be the best attribution of a film source of a video clip.

I have a couple of different patterns. Let me know what would be the best for viewers and/or for avoiding angry rights holders:

1.  Title (date of release)
Video company of video edition used (Image Entertainment, Blue Underground, etc.)

2.  Title (date of release)
     Director credit
Video company of video edition used (Image Entertainment, Blue Underground, etc.)

I would be tempted to list the actual production company of the film, but a lot of them don't even exist anymore.

Let me know what you would recommend for a caption on a film clip in a Youtube video. Any real legal advice would be awesome.

If you're using the clip with permission then attribute it whatever way they tell you to.

If you're using the clip without permission it has no bearing on anything. Attributing the clip will not turn a copyright infringement into non-infringement. If it's fair use then attribution is polite, but has no legal bearing that I'm aware of.

I'll probably just be courteous and polite until I get my first Copyright Notice slapped on me, then I'll get signed permission.

Everything will be used as Fair Use. Just showing clips to present movies, but not showing enough to infringe on financial gain for the DVD distribution company.

Of course, that doesn't stop some jackass from slapping a Copyright Notice/Takedown Notice on your videos simply because they want to disrupt your channel.

Disney and Tojo in particular have automated software that just searches for titles and then automatically notifies YouTube to block anything using those words. YouTube just accepts their word and blocks them and no human ever looks at the videos. Nothing illegal about that procedure since no one has a right to post something to YouTube anyway.

Yeah, both of them are fairly safe from my discussing them, so I'm good as far as they are concerned. Now, if Al Adamson's ghost comes back to haunt me, that could be an issue.
