I'm a Mac...

« on: March 14, 2016, 07:38:34 PM »

When I was down in St. Louis to visit my sister, brother in law, and fur kiddos I discovered a store called Micro Center.  I found that had Raspberry Pi 2 Model Bs for sale so I decided to pick one up plus a starter kit.  I had to get a micro SD card, once I did that I was able to download the Raspbian OS and start the system up.

I'll have to play with it some more in the coming days.

I basically made mine a SNES emulator which is a ton of fun once set up. What's your goal with yours?

Haven't quite decided yet.  I hope to find something good to do with it.

Me, I was hoping to get back into mongrel building, BUT, I'm ten years outa practice & have no experience with any kind of Linux system. Ad to that, it doesn't work quite like a PC, & it's really meant more for learning code...

I did take a one day intro at a local hack/makerspace & programmed it to make a 3 color LED blink on & off, but I haven't really taken the time or spent the money to explore it any deeper.

btw, I just got the card, not one of the kits.

A friend I used to work with has suggested trying Pidora. I might also try Ubuntu Mate. Nice thing is you can just switch out different Micro SD cards for each distro.

This is really impressive guys.  You have done some cool things with this DIY tech.  It seems way beyond me, or at least my free time.

back in the Stone age, my cousin had several Timex Sinclair DIY computers that he used for all sorts of neat electronic tricks, this is a big big extension.
